Battletech Encyclopedia
The NBT Encyclopedia is primarily a listing of a variety of CBT source books that have been used to create the NBT league and are continued to be used in its further development. We are encouraging that each team
acquire at least one CBT source book (the Field
Manual Update below) for reference when playing within the league.
Of course, more source books may be acquired, and in fact for some teams
this is highly recommended. It does not have to be the CO or XO that acquires
this resource, though obviously it will help greatly for those in a decision-making
position to have access to the wealth of information available within
these source books. Most source books run around $20 (US).
Another option that is now available is
to purchase a variety of sourcebooks in PDF format from BattleCorps.
Through the BattleShop
Game PDF's section, you can purchase about 25 sourcebooks and TRO's.
Prices are comparable to purchasing hardcopy of the book. All are searchable,
full copies of the books. More will be made available over time as BattleCorps
expands.

There is one source book that NBT is considering "required reading" by each unit within the league. The Battletech RPG: Field Manual Update contains a wealth of information regarding the current state of affairs within the CBT universe as of the year 3067, from Clans to Houses to Periphery and much more.
For five years the Inner Sphere has known war on a scale not seen in centuries, with the militaries of literally every faction seeing action to one extent or another. Now, as relative peace appears to be settling over the Inner Sphere, a review of the forces of the BattleTech universe can be made.
Classic BattleTech Field Manual: Update updates all ten Field Manuals, including a history section that will bridge the gap between where the appropriate Field Manual left off and mid-3067, as well as a complete and current TO&E for all factions. Updated random 'Mech assignment tables for all factions are also included.

The following source books are considered
"recommended reading" by various units within the league.
For instance, the Warden Clans source book is recommended for units like
Clan Snow Raven or Clan Wolf in Exile. Free Worlds League would probably
not have a huge interest in the contents of that source book. The Inner
Sphere source book though would be an excellent addition to a FWL library.

Recommended To: All Units wishing to play a role in the
upcoming league RP development. While not everything in this sourcebook
will be used in the league (as the league is not going to end up
in the Dark Age storyline) it does provide a wealth of scenarios
and story aspects that will be used during the league timeline.
Description: Dawn of the Jihad shakes the Classic BattleTech(R)
universe to its foundation, documenting the opening year in a decades
long struggle for the very survival of humanity. The series of events
presented in this book unfold in a rolling format, allowing readers
to immerse themselves more directly into the action than ever before.
Players of both Classic BattleTech and Classic BattleTech RPG(tm)
will also find framework rules to run almost any type of campaign
set in this chaotic time.

Recommended To: Federated Suns, Lyran Alliance
Description: For long years, two of the most powerful Great
Houses have been in the grip of a bloody civil war; a conflict the
likes of which has not been seen since the Amaris Coupe and the
following Liberation of Terra. Every line regiment, every militia,
every backwater world soldier: each has had to make a choice of
where his loyalties lie and support that decision with a laser muzzle.
Now, as the dust settles, the full story-only partially told in
nine BattleTech novels-can be revealed. Through wave maps and full
regiment listings, the movement and fighting of every line unit
through out both the Federated Suns and Lyran Alliance, for the
entire duration of the Civil War, will be detailed.

Recommended To: Periphery Units, Pirate Units
Description: Beyond the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere
lies the untamed Periphery. Filled with young souls seeking adventure
and freedom, the Periphery is a watershed for every stripe of humanity.
This diversity has spawned powerful Inner Sphere-like political
coalitions, roving pirates, one-world lesser powers and bandit kingdoms
striving for legitimacy. Wild, uncivilized and deadly, the Periphery
is a turbulent frontier where any warrior who dares can be king.
Battletech Field Manual: Periphery describes the various factions
that make up the Periphery: Magistracy of Canopus, Taurian Concordat,
Marian Hegemony, Outworlds Alliance, Circinus Federation, the Lesser
Periphery States, Bandit Kingdoms and the Deep Periphery. This sourcebook
describes the history, military doctrine, traditions and tactics
of each Periphery faction, plus special rules that reflect the exclusive
capabilities of each Periphery regiment, as well as new weapons
and 'Mechs unique to the Periphery.

The following books have been used as reference
materials in the creation of the NBT league systems. While they are not
recommended reading for specific units in the league, they are still excellent
sources of information on Classic BattleTech and the history of the CBT
Universe. Many of these books can be found at FRP
Games, while others are harder to find due to being out of print.

The final group of books are called Technical Readouts (TRO's). These contain detailed information on all the 'Mechs within the Classic BattleTech Universe. While MW4 only uses a handful of these battlefield goliaths, there are literally 1000's of chassis available. NBT-HC will be working to provide as many of these chassis as possible through the MW4 game engine. By all mean, please take a look at the wealth of chassis available, and let us know your favorites. NBT-Classic, being based on the MegaMek system, will be making use of as many of these chassis as reasonably possible during the course of the league.
