Post Question: Wireless Connection
Is it possible to play HC using wireless connection (Ie. setup port forwarding in dynamic IP)?

Just like to help a friend of mine.

I think this will help him:

Firewall users must open up ports to use ZoneMatch and DirectX 8 DirectPlay port ranges to successfully participate in games. Matchmaking needs the following TCP ports opened:

27999
28805
28806
28807
28808

For PINGs to work properly, UDP port 28800 must be open.

Using DirectX 8 or a later version
Connection Ports for Client Configuration Ports for Host Configuration
Initial UDP Connection 6073 Outbound 6073 Inbound
Subsequent UDP Inbound 2302-2400 2302-2400
Subsequent UDP Outbound 2302-2400 2302-2400

Using DirectX 7 or an earlier version
Connection Ports for Client Configuration Ports for Host Configuration
Initial TCP Connection 47624 Outbound 47624 Inbound
Subsequent TCP Inbound 2300-2400 2300-2400
Subsequent TCP Outbound 2300-2400 2300-2400
Subsequent UDP Inbound 2300-2400 2300-2400
Subsequent UDP Outbound 2300-2400 2300-2400

With a Router you need to forward the ports directly to you PC.

I think he can't sign-on yet to the forums, his registration needs confirmation.

Do you mean opening ports will work regardless of connection type?

I believe I asked him to open the ports MW4 uses, he called a technician that sets up the router but the guy said it can't be setup for some reason.

i have played in the past thru a wireless connection. opening the ports helps no matter what kind of connection you use. If the technician says he cannot open the ports on the router, then he prolly has no idea what he is doing.....

What was the account he created.. it won't get approved unless it looks extremely obvious that he's a real person to me and has likely already been sent to my trash folder.

The only reason could be that his Router isn´t a router

If i know the exact name of this thing, I can help more.

what kind of router do you have? if you change the settings in a router it might be the case that you get temporary disconnected.

Are you positive that this is a Port Forwarding Issue? i.e. have you made any attempt to connect from the modem directly to the PC with the MW game (& then attempted to connect)? Please advise.

It would also help everyone help you if you included:
~ type of connect (cable, dsl: i.e. who is your provider?)
~ the modem make & model
~ if a router is involved, the make & model of that too
From the above, we are not going to need or want any personal information or accounts (obviously), so keep those to yourself...

Once these are identified, I am pretty sure you can be helped a little more. This coupled with either a chat on TeamSpeak OR on IRC, someone could get you rolling.

The IP address of your router is by default 192.168.1.1
You see a box asking your username and password.
By default the username and password for your TP-Link TL-WR542G router are both admin
Enter your username and password and click the ok button to continue.
Click the link forwarding.
You find this link on the left of the page.

also you can find out what your ip and the IP of your router is by using the command "ipconfig"

Belgrade, Serbia ISP.

Wireless Router is connected to some type of Modem. Would need to know if you are in some type of dormatory or apt complex that offers internet. Usually, the ports are not blocked as the adminstrator does not want the hassle of being called for each & every request on the apt network.

Your wireless connection to the router is not so much an issue. It is probably not pointing the ports to open to your local area network (LAN) address on your desktop/ laptop(PC).

Your Router you list is connected to something... If it is the wall, then you need to investigate where the wall connection to your router is going to.

the ports need to get entered and then the IP they need to get forwarded to (your computer) also check the enable. Enter the ports as listed above. if it does not take a range you will have to enter each port. Are you the only user on the router?

aelos:

on your PC, Find the "Command Prompt"= "C:\"

type: ipconfig

press enter

You need to know the last 3 digit # listed as:

IP Adress......................................................192.168.1.xxx

What is the "xxx"
